Going ‘Green’
Eco-friendly (as I define it): implementing sustainable practices that ensure minimal impact on planet Earth.
Going ’green’, or “eco-friendly”, is a fairly new mass-movement gaining momentum across the globe. As reports continue to mount about the deterioration of the environment – melting of the polar ice sheets, rising and warming oceans that lead to violent weather (hello earthquakes and tsunamis!) – individuals are beginning to take note. Additionally, with extra attention on sustainable practices by the Obama Administration and through continued efforts of green movements, “eco-friendly” and “sustainability” have become household terms.
There are many ways a home and business can begin to move to “being green”, some ideas are:
- Go paperless, as much as possible
- Minimize the use of energy through unplugging appliances and electronics, switch out light bulbs to energy efficient ones as your old ones burnout and install timers or rheostats on all light fixtures.
- Recycle!! Plastics, shopping bags, printer toners & inks, paper, batteries, office equipment, etc…
- Change air filters regularly to allow air to freely flow
- Purchase reusable water bottles
- Purchase energy efficient and low-flow appliances & fixtures
This is just a short-list of options one may implement, and each is easily doable.
